Abstract
Text files and textual analysis represent areas of significant and growing importance in the humanities, and in particular academic research libraries, have an important role to play in supporting these emerging resource. This paper provides a description of activities currently in place which is based on the results of two surveys. An overview of UMLibText (University of Michigan Library's system), a local system for distributed textual analysis is proposed; it provides networked access to a vast array of textual resources. Sidebars discuss ARTFL, a textual database, the Oxford Text Archive, InteLex, the Open Text Corporation, the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), the machine-readable version of the Oxford English Dictionary, and the Center for Electronic Texts in the Humanities.
